Fashion Girl Trades In NYC Fashion District for the District of Columbia
Fashion Girl trades in NYC Fashion District for the District of Columbia What do designer jeans and custom greeting cards have in common? Everything when you're talking about style, fit and chic appeal.
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) August 1, 2009 -- Jennifer Lavallée may not be a household name - yet. But for years she has worked with celebrities like Jessica Biel, Ashton Kutcher, Kirsten Dunst, Lucy Liu, Pierce Brosnan; a Hollywood A-List that goes on and on and also includes industry top celebrity photographers and fashion designers too. You see, Ms. Lavallée has been a creative force in the Fashion Industry - from working as the Fashion Editor at Gear Magazine to a merchandiser at the corporate offices for Calvin Klein Jeans on 7th Ave. With more than 15 years in New York City's Fashion industry, fate has now brought Ms. Lavallée to the Nation's Capital where she continues to deliver style and fashion befitting of her celebrity background. The only difference is that Ms. Lavallée (pronounced la-val-lee) now expresses her creative passion through Bellajenna designing custom cards, invitations and personal stationary.
Bellajenna (www.bellajenna.com) introduces a new line of custom cards and stationary - Bella Bride, Bella Baby, Bella Birthday, Bella Casa, Bella You and Bella Flora. Standard card sets are available but what really sets Bellajenna apart from other card companies is the personal custom card design service. Whether you want to personalize a Mother's Day card, baby announcement or send out invitations for a special occasion, each custom card begins with a free consultation. Ms. Lavallée reflects on why this makes such a difference, "My wedding cake was very special. It was a Sylvia Weinstock cake. When it came time for the cake consultation, to my surprise Sylvia herself, her iconic round black rimmed eye glasses and all, sat down with my husband and me. She spent over an hour just chatting and getting to know us. What I got at the wedding was more than an absolutely beautiful and delicious cake. Our wedding cake was a true reflection of us and our style - it was perfect and to this day our friends still talk about it. I want to deliver the same attention to my clients."
"Sweetness, thoughtfulness, courtesy and charm never go out of style. Sending a card will always be in fashion' is the mantra behind Bellajenna," explains Ms. Lavallée. "Sending and receiving a card has always excited me. Ever since I was a little girl it thrills me so much to receive a card in the mail. It's like getting a little present; I just can't wait to unwrap it, check out the creative design and read the contents. To me it's the most sincere and thoughtful way of saying 'I'm thinking of you and I really care.' It's so much warmer and much more personal than an email."

In recent years the rage in male fashion is underwear. Male underwear designers have created a new buzz in undergear for men. Plain white cotton briefs (tighty-whiteys) seem to be on the endangered list for extinction, except for designers such as Hugo Boss and Calvin Klein, possibly because they have some of the hottest male models in the industry promoting them.
Underwear for men have become increasingly sexy, offering a multiplicity of styles, colors, messages and even different purposes. Underwear that is not only tailored for comfort, but fun to wear.
Women have jumped on the bandwagon, increasing sales for many designers, wanting to purchase something more exciting for their guy to wear. One woman we heard from recently admits to buying underwear for her guy, spending several hundred dollars a month to dress him down under. Her selections have been from Hugo Boss, Armani, C-In2, Ginch Gonch, 2xist, D&G, Clever, Mundo, Gigo, Papi and her list goes on. This woman says she typically spends between $24.95 to $85.00 per pair, not a package of three, but a pair!
Certainly a shortage of male models displaying the new designs is close to non-existent. The craze has opened doors for many new male models from around the globe.
So, when did the need for male undergear begin? It is hard to say, however, remnants of leather loincloths have been found with the remains of pre-historic man living 7,000 years ago. Egyptians of the 2nd millenium B.C. used fabric to form an undergarment over which they wore a skirt. In tombs of the pharaohs supplies for further use after death were buried with them.
Today the tide is changing and maybe it is a good thing, especially for the designers, for those wearing them and those persons purchasing them for their guy.
Emerging Magazine's editor is a connoisseur of the unusual and most intriguing, especially when it entails fashion and music. Alexander McQueen fits the bill in his awe-inspiring designs both in men and women fashion. His fashion shows as are extraordinary as his fashion designs. Emerging Magazine names Alexander McQueen as one the Top Ten designers in the world today.
Please read below Alexander McQueen's biography as provided on his website.
Alexander McQueen was born in London on March 17th 1969 as the youngest of six children. He left school at the age of 16 and was immediately offered an apprenticeship at the traditional Saville Row tailors Anderson and Shephard and then at neighbouring Gieves and Hawkes, both masters in the technical construction of clothing.
From there he moved to the theatrical costumiers Angels and Bermans where he mastered 6 methods of pattern cutting from the melodramatic 16th Century to the razor sharp tailoring which has become a McQueen signature. Aged 20 he was employed by the designer Koji Tatsuno, who also had his roots in British tailoring. A year later McQueen travelled to Milan where he was gainfully employed as Romeo Giglis design assistant. He finally returned to London in 1994 where he completed a Masters degree in Fashion Design at St. Martins. His degree collection was famously bought in its entirety by Isabella Blow.
Alexander McQueen is known for both the emotional power and raw energy of the shows as well as the romantic but determinedly contemporary nature of the collections. Integral to the McQueen culture is the juxtaposition between contrasting elements: fragility and strength, tradition and modernity and fluidity and severity. An openly emotional and even passionate viewpoint is realised with a profound respect and influence for the arts and crafts tradition. Alexander's collections combine an in-depth working knowledge of: bespoke British tailoring, the fine workmanship of the French Haute Couture atelier and the impeccable finish of Italian manufacturing.
In less than 10 years McQueen became one of the most respected fashion designers in the world. In October 1996 he was appointed Chief Designer at the French Haute Couture House Givenchy where he worked until March of 2001.
In December 2000, 51% of Alexander McQueen was acquired by the Gucci Group, where he remains to this day as Creative Director. Collections include womens ready-to-wear, mens ready-to-wear, accessories, eyewear and fragrance (Kingdom 2003 and MyQueen 2005). Expansion followed and included the opening of flagship stores in New York, London and Milan. Alexander McQueen collections are now distributed in over 39 countries through 194 wholesale accounts including speciality shops and better department stores.
In addition to the mainline collections, partnerships have been formed with Puma in October 2005 for an unexpected and unique exploratory footwear collection and Samsonite in February 2007 resulting in a cutting edge luxury travel range. January 2006 heralded the birth of McQ Alexander McQueen a denim based ready to wear line (womenswear, menswear and accessories), manufactured and distributed worldwide by SINV spa.
The following awards have recognized Alexander McQueens achievement in fashion: British Designer of the year 1996, 1997, 2001, and 2003, International Designer of the Year by The Council of Fashion Designer's of America (CFDA) in 2003, A Most Excellent Commander of The British Empire (CBE) by her Majesty the Queen in 2003, and the Fashion and Grooming Awards - Fashion Directors Award 2007 for McQ. Menswear designer of the Year by GQ in September 2007.
